The media is a powerful tool. And whoever controls it controls the narrative and the perceptions of those who consume it.The Nazis used propaganda to their benefit, and they made it work for them in unimaginable ways. "Radio propaganda" worked in Rwanda and a million Tutsis were slaughtered because of it.The truth is, media has always played a role in conflicts both domestic and global. I sure hope that the prosecutor in Ferguson, Missouri recuses himself from this Michael Brown case. Even he believes that he can be totally objective, the circumstances surrounding this case and his back ground say otherwise. As is the case with many of these small towns (and some large ones), the Ferguson prosecutor, a democrat, is very much invested in the police department.Mr. McCulloch has family members who work for the police department, his father was a police officer in the sixties, and he (his father) was killed in the line of duty while…

“Ferguson” is now a meme as opposed to a place; it is a story that individuals can read themselves into depending on their own politics, values, and life experiences. A person’s response to the explosive combination of race, crime, and the law in Ferguson is a litmus test for deeper political values and life experiences.Black Americans have historically and in the present been victims of police abuse and disproportionately punished by a racist and classist criminal “justice” system. The killing of Michael Brown is one more death in a necropolis of unarmed black people killed by…

For it is not HBCUs themselves, but the very conceptions of university learning that inform our understanding of higher education that represent a “crisis.” Yet, what often flows from these commentaries are rationales for the continued relevance of HBCUs inasmuch as these institutions…

It's not about standing in the gap waiting. In Between meant the quiet space of here and there....a place to hide. It is that grace time to breathe in and breathe out. Letting go of loss and preparing to receive new gifts.  And oh those gifts are so grand... even in their simplicity. The In Between used to mean licking my wounds and muddling through…

I thought about those whose commitment to eating vegan or raw is not as intrenched or is nonexistent who make much less healthy choices then we do. For too many of us the fast food, restaurant, frozen food, eat mindlessly while driving or watching TV method of feeding ourselves is the norm. This Nightmare is impacting the health of people of Afrikan descent especially. It is leading us down the path of chronic disease, obesity, disability and early death.Read more ›

My 23rd birthday just passed this week, and although I had a great time with my family...my birthdays just don't feel the same anymore. My parents always told me that the older I got, the quicker the days would fly by and the less exciting my birthdays would be. Obviously the whole "time flying by" thing happens because we are no longer carefree. We have responsibilities, and monotony, and we do the same things every single day. Traditionally, at least.
